Though I mostly agree with most of what he says, I kind of feel like I'm reading a badly-written essay where he tries to prove his point ("disconnection between Blizzard and the gaming community") no matter what. I think this thing is getting turned into clickbait material and it's getting trendy for youtubers to talk about it, even if it's far from being accurate.
- "They had to shutdown because the server was hosted in France and it is not allowed". I am always baffled by all these people that take this shortcut. It could have been in Eastern Europe, in China or in the North Pole, Blizzard always explicitely said that private servers are forbidden. Sure, the fact that it was hosted in France, which is easy to reach for US lawyers, was in favor of Bizzard. However, you do not magically stop being illegal when you cross more borders, that just makes you more difficult to reach.
- The example on Dota was a joke. First, it was not even from Blizzard, it was a fan-made mod using the Warcraft 3 map-editor. While Blizzard did later support the next developments of the mod, they had no major role. And when they wanted to get the license to develop a sequel (because, you know, $$$), they were stopped by Valve who actually developed Dota 2 (not without spending some time in trial after getting sued by Blizzard because, you know, $$$).
I like the fact that Youtubers give Nostalrius community the visibility it deserves.
I like the fact that Youtubers can see how Blizzard is acting without common sense.
But I don't like the fact that you can get thousands of views by repeating what everything has already been said, putting in there a few approximations and mostly, never check your sources.
