Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street's official response

What is your opinion on the Nostalrius situation and legacy servers with world of warcraft as a whole? Would you be willing to voice your support for the petition alongside Mark Kern to create legacy servers that allow players to return to the game that they actually enjoyed?

I don't think it's appropriate for me to get involved here. I'm not just a normal player. I'm someone who worked on WoW for six years, so I feel like my voice would carry more weight than it should, more weight than someone who actually has skin in the game.

In terms of my thoughts on the topic, a lot of players keep asking, so I'll just quote myself on Twitter here:

  • I've been asked this a lot. I'm not going to pick a side about who is right or wrong because it's probably not that simple
  • I definitely feel for the players who lost something.
  • But I'm sure Blizzard had good reasons. Maybe they had to protect their IP, because you can lose it if you do not. IDK.
  • I think most of you know that one thing Blizzard and I do disagree on is how much you should communicate with players.
  • I try to be as transparent with players as I possibly can be.
  • Blizzard had a different philosophy, which is fine. I don't begrudge them that.

Well its not a 'we dont care about legacy servers' cause ghostcrawler is not a part of blizzard any more, he works for riot, more specifically he works on league of legends now.

So he cant say 'we dont care about it' cause he is no longer part of the 'we' that is blizzard.

I think he is mainly indifferent to the situation but as he said, he does feel for the players aka us that lost something great.

He's not saying that at all, he's trying not to burn bridges here while being diplomatic about his words to disagree with Blizzard. It's very politician-like.

As in he was asked a question, wrote a paragraph about it, yet still didn't answer the question. Couldn't agree more.

"now that u no longer work for blizzard would u ever play on a private server of wow? a blizzlike one"

That's a horrible question to ask and Greg's response is very appropriate. I think a better question to ask would have been, "would u ever play on a legacy server of wow that is hosted by Blizzard?". Obviously this implies paying a monthly sub.
