9M gone vs. 3M that stayed

Why is Blizzard catering to the 3M players that remain playing the game? Wouldn't it be better to get the 9M that they lost back and screw the 3M Farmville players who pretend to be actual gamers. Losing the game as it is wouldn't be a loss to their current player base, since they can be satisfied any content out there.

If Blizz is checking in here at all, I can help --- just replace the current game with this http://cowclicker.com/ ... the current players will be very happy to play it. I promise they will and they won't even notice the difference when they log in. Plus it will save Blizzard money on development, etc.

Then after you do that .. bring back the great game that it was prior to Cata and get back all the players you lost. That's a win for all. The Warlords of Farmville players with be happy with a cow to farm and the 9M that you lost will be happy with a fun, challenging and social game that brought them to you in the first place.

Is there anyone at Blizz/Acti anymore who looks at the numbers and says why the fuck are we catering to this small group instead of the large group we lost? As soon as they dropped under 6M subs they should have figured it out.

Ummm .. of course I know they wouldn't ALL come back  Just like the 3M they have now aren't really 3 million but within some range of it. But even if 4M (just a number I'm throwing out, not an exact calculation) came back that would be an improvement over 3M .. yes?

Oh for clarification (because I'm sure there will be someone here that will take my post waaaayyy too literally and misunderstand the basic intention) I DO understand that they just can't replace the current WoW with Cowclicker

I would't call it that "3m stayed", 80% of those 3m are newer players.

From their once strong playerbase I'd bett at least 95% are gone and the 3m consist mostly of kids, panda loving housewives and some who just can't let go.

I agree. And if what's left is only (approximately) 5% of the original player base, then they really went wrong somewhere. With the game as it is currently, they would be hard pressed to get 12M subscribers with their new playerbase because they are competing in a market that is saturated with similar games.

They had a niche market at one time, no other game out there like it (plenty wanted to be but couldn't get it right). Now they share a market with a glut of similar microtransaction games. If it were my company I would fire the lot of them for destroying the brand.

They aren't. Blizzard screwed over those players by cutting the content updates they had planned so they could crank out the next expansion faster. Those 3M players paid subscription fees for a full year and got no content for it. They got fucked. Blizzard is WAY more concerned with the people that are not currently giving them money.

There is no core demographic for WoW at this point. They tried to appeal to every demographic at the same time and ended up disappointing everyone.

Fitting proof that by trying to please everyone, you achieve nothing.
