Idea for devs regarding legitimacy.

Blizzard is worried about their IP and I can understand that, but there is a way of keeping nost and blizz maintaining their IP. Writing a contract that turns over nost ownership to blizzard but with the express clause that it stay separate from blizz and run by nost staff exclusively would give both sides a win. I know some people might not like this but it could work, and give both sides exactly what they want. It would need to be written carefully and gone over with a fine toothed comb I am sure. But hey, we all just want everyone to be happy yea?

We will see what will happen in the end ( I mean, let's wait for an offic announcement). There were a couple of threads regarding this. This is not something easy to maintain. So yeah, I don't think that we can "do anything about it right now". If you wish to "help the community" - go and post on reddit/eu/us battle.net forums. But you will see identical threads/posts.

Cheers.

It gets pretty sticky with IP & letting someone else use it...

Yes, that why I was suggesting this way, it gives blizz ownership without involvement so it's not letting someone else use it, it's theirs at this point but it's run by someone else. similar to an umbrella company. This would also give nos the ability to bring in ad revenue and even some vanity items in a marketplace that blizz could share in the profits. ( not pay to win items, strictly vanity)

I don't think its as complicated as some people are lead to believe. After all Mcdonalds and countless other Corporations license out their name left and right. If anything the laws are well established in this case.

That's exactly what happens with Patent licensing. The fact is, Blizzard could use the money they are paying lawyers to file lawsuits against private servers and instead have them write up a licensing agreement.

They just don't want to at the moment (maybe that is, since the blue post leaves some room for discussion.)

You know what is a 100% easy fix. License the server out and make the Servers use Battle.net to login to verify everyone has an active wow account.

EVERYONE WINS!

If we can figure out what the problems are, maybe we can come up with solutions.

Apparently, one of the big problems with this idea is that nost's work is a derivative work of mangos. It would bound Blizz to the mangos license, which would require them to release their source code, the person from WoW's tech forum said, and that this would be a field day for bot makers and hackers and other unscrupulous types.

That is some insight, but I still can't give two fu*ks. Blizzard needs to get off their butts and start legacy servers. Otherwise we have no choice but to play on our own legacy servers.

I'm not defending them, since they should have listened a long time ago. I'm just offering information.

They aren't going to open themselves up like that though, so is there a way around it?
