People on the WoW forums are talking about doing kickstarter/gofundme crap for Blizzard for legacy servers. I want legacy bad, I do, but are you freaking kidding me?? They are a MULTI billion, with a B.. BILLION dollar company. Why the hell should anyone donate to them to get them to do the right thing for the fans who put them where they are? I think this is insane.
I would pay a fee or a sub or whatever, yeah, but seriously? Taking up donations for freaking Activi$ion Blizzard? SMH

If they use kickstarter as a pre-paid sub why not (Like Camelot Unchained backers pack, more you give more you'll have pre-paid month of sub at game release)
It would allow Blizz to know exactly how many peoples are ready to pay to play on a legacy server.
.... something like "if we get 100 000 peops buying a 6 month sub via ks we will make the legacy servers otherwise refund and no server" seems acceptable to me...

Completely agree with you. The campaign isn't just about the money, but how they would use that money together with other market info gathered from it. I would definitely support with a 1-year prepaid or more if this ever happened.

The point would be to judge whether or not there's enough interested to bother. Blizzard's unwillingness to gamble on this in advance is why they haven't done it in the first place. If they charged in advance and it got drowned in support, they'd definitely do it. If it didn't raise what they demanded, then they could toss it away again without any risk on their part, and the backers would simply keep their pledges.
The issue though is that it's already overwhelming proven and obvious that there IS enough interest in this to support it. It doesn't need further proof or insurance. They are literally guaranteed to boom off of this, or at the very least profit back every bit of cost. Still, Blizzard authorizing Nost to do a Kickstarter for legacy servers is one possible outcome that's being planned. I know that if that's what it took for this to get official backing and avoid legal issues again, I'd be pledging it myself.

People saying they want legacy servers vs. people putting money where their mouth is, is two different things.

Yeah, and I get what everyone is saying. I could see paying a year sub in advance, etc. but it still sounds absolutely ridiculous to me to take up donations for a megabillion corporation. I guess I'm just a little too old school...

tbh it's not a bad idea ,i suggested the same myself a week or so ago on the blizz forums and it would certainly show true demand for legacy servers over the current medium by people showing thier support via wallets as opposed to a petition that has sigs from people that wont play vanilla and are only signing to help the cause i.e runescape community etc.. , it would obviously have reward packages for donation amounts no different than any other ,one might include free game time and so forth... , and if blizz are reluctant to spend cash but would be willing to do that we could quite litrally fund the project as a collective
