Surprised that he did this but here it is, from the #1 Blizz errand boy himself:

"Entry Epic Gear"?

Love people who never raided in Vanilla, commenting on Vanilla raiding.

Though I can confirm, would get spammed questions about Thunderfury.

More coverage never hurts. They sound like they'd definitely play on it if it were an option. Nost would have had even more people if Blizzard wasn't swinging its legal dickhammer around on Twitch all last year. But despite their childish bullying to herd everyone over to retail, Nost still got plenty of coverage, and players. Now, to no one's surprise except the morons over at Blizzard's legal team; shutting down Nost was a huge disaster. I hope their toileted revenue of 2016 will finally get us legacy servers.

Entry level epic gear like hide of the wild was pretty mandatory, and you do have to grind for it.
I don't know about you, but when I just got my 60 alt warrior, the first thing I got was a lionheart so I could raid.
Did we play the same game?

This... "Entry" gear you speak of was implamented by the players back in 2006 (in the end of Vanilla), pretty much like "Gear Score".

Still remember seeing ppl with greens in Onyxia raids. And these items you mentioned were impossible to afford for most of the ppl, like 80% of the players base. 400-500g back then was a big deal, quite big tbh. And with the upcoming TBC expansion and the "flying mounts", prices for these items were utterly overpriced because ppl knew and wanted to make some gold of it and buy asap flying mounts. So yeah, you raid with what you have + some resistance for the fight/pots/flask - that's it.

You do realize we were JUST NOW in a vanilla server? and yeah, a respectable guild would require you to have some level of rares/epics before joining in on their roster.
Could you do it with green geared players? yes, but you'd probably be in one of the ony/MC pugs and wipe a lot.
So yeah, again, entry level epic gear..

Yeah i do. I was speaking for the original Vanilla.. The difference, Hograth, now and then is the knowledge ppl had it and how to do things properly. Back then you had only Thottbot with limited information. So yeah, Freshly dinged lvl 60 had to farm dungeon till you bleed, but it takes time, a lot of time.

Entry level epic gear... my ass. Respectable guild or not, ppl will take you in the raid IF you have at least the gear that will serve you for the fight. Many guilds did it with half blues/greens (seen at least 10 peeps in the raids with mixed gear). My guild had 805 active players, and many of them were in the raids with 2-3 greens still on them because not everyone is lucky with the drops. I started on Onyxia with 2 greens and never had problems doing this raid, never, nor my guild was carrying. A well coordinated raid can do amazing things, believe me (even without these.... entry epics).

There aren't hardly any raid entry epics. Pre raid equipment is almost exclusively blue. You listed things that aren't as good as top end blues or downright unavailable until a later patch into Classic, long after you'd already be raiding. Krol Blade is inferior to blues at 60. Some of those are terrible, like the Unstoppable Force, which no one would swing in a raid except maybe a Paladin. Any Warrior would slot 2x 1hs such as rend swords, or the AV dagger for his off hand. If you wanted to swing a 2h in a raid, it was Nightfall or GTFO.

I should point out that many blues are actually better than purples for the sake of inflicting dps. The tailoring ZG set is pretty much better than most purples in the game, and you can acquire it BoE without ever entering a raid. The itemization was fucked back then. In fact, many players used GREENS over raid purples because the greens had higher SP, the only stat they cared about. They did not want the mixture of stats that Blizzard put on their raid sets(some of which included agility???); they just wanted highest SP. Greens actually went for hundreds of gold in trading, which was hilarious to see. Wands probably went for the most, selling for 250-500g, since they could actually get a higher SP than raid purple wands, neither of which had any other stats. It made no logical sense. That SP wand from the final boss of ZG for example. A green BoE can have a higher SP.
