So... release code now?

by phyriel » Thu Jun 16, 2016 12:21 am

So... nothing really happened, you made some friends at Blizz, shaked hands and felt like you had a warm welcome. Well good for you, source code, your bargaining chip didn't buy anything except time for blizzard to silence all harm Nostalrius community would unleash otherwise on their facebook. Release the code now?

Refusing to shutdown means they'd have to go to court, which for any of several reasons, I'm assuming they didn't want to do. But I'm hoping they do leak out their server code if Blizzard isn't going to do anything. I just hope account data is not attached to it, as this opens a big door for hackers and fraud on other sites and servers. Yes, you'll lose your precious characters, get over it. Saving them isn't worth the trouble it'll cause for everyone, including the server that tries to create them. Just take the server programming code to host, and then let players start over again.

Well I'd honestly hope for data also but w/e, its far from happening either way. But the thing about releasing the code is what makes me disbelieve Nost team the most. They promised us code no matter what after shutdown. Now it feels like they never intended to reward this community with code at all but instead said they would just to keep us together, fighting to further their agenda... which... purely speculating here... was to send them to blizz hq. Do I have a feeling that they were a side representing us? No I don't. From meeting review I got the vibe they went there to befriend them and lick some ass, talking about legacy servers that i don't give a fuck about, that I think majority of this community don't give a fuck about a it will be still fucktivision-blizzard and there's no hope for it being any good. Furthering my speculation I'd say that was the goal all along, create a server in location that was doomed to fail, make it hyped, make it big, close it, make a huge drama, get blizz to notice, profit. I wouldn't be surpriced if the whole CnD letter never happend. Did they post a copy of it anywhere?

You created a new post for this... You do realise that they would never say yes/no after that meeting right? They always anounce things in/during events and such, either you have 0 patience or just refuse to see the big picture here, and what is at stake. You want some other shit group to take the code and try to keep the same quality? Im starting to think you are just bitching over the fact that your character is gone, am i wrong?

They did that promise before they knew there was a chance of getting offical support, how is it that you dont understand this? Doing it now would just be counter effective and damage that cause... i give up on you.

Don't get triggered so easily my young padawan. Well official support is not something I personally hoped for. What is the bottom line for me is that I don't want to deal with activision-blizzard anymore, be it retail or legacy servers, because this company proved to abandon all the values they had when they started. I hoped that Nost team would fight to make a legacy server data free of CnD burden so private servers could flourish. Instead they feed Blizzard with all community based info gathered from Nostalrius in attempt to convince blizz to open legacy servers (which I know some people want but where was any poll for this on nost forums? do I want legacy servers in blizz hands? fuck no, that thing will destroy private servers community forever and halt any code progression at all) so I feel my interest is not being represented here, as a member of community that have a freedom to express my hopes and expectations. It feels like Nost team considered that this whole community want Blizzard legacy servers, which is just not true.

P.S we were fighting to make Nost free, not to give Blizzard another fucking product to sell. Fuck that shit honestly. Are you honestly that naive to think that they will, even if they calculate it to be profitable, release a product that we expect? After WoD?:D That behind smirks, handshakes and Allen Brack jokes about level 8 hunter pet in Stratholme they know what we want all the sudden? You think you do...

I mean if you genuinely give a chance to activision version of legacy server and if you really want that then your argument is completely valid and I understand that. Its just that I wished for something else, because as things are right now its worst in all the history of private servers and most of it due to Nostalrius honestly. Like all these years we had some place to play vanilla wow (yea it was buggy, it was laggy, but it was there) and now we're kinda left out with nothing, Nostalrius team end up selling us and our community based info to Blizzard so theres that. And there are people that are being fed shit and made think they swallow chocolate so what can I say... i guess im left with "eat shit" phrase here.

Just go look for another private server then? And qq when it gets shut down about the fact that they dont give the players shit afterwards. I dont see why you would think they would be different? Is it because they said they might release it upon shutdown, which turned into something huge, something you dont want to be a part of - because you just want to play private servers? Get over yourself, they wont release shit to people like you :P

I think you are misunderstanding some major points here phyriel and I would not be surprised if others were confused as well. Blizzard creating legacy servers isn't necessarily going to destroy the private server community, in my opinion, its going to EVOLVE the community into something more! We will actually merge with the retail community in some type of form and we will be a larger community. Instead of being known as a private community, we will evolve an be known directly as a legacy community!

In regards to what Nostalrius wanted to do...the petition just wanted to show blizzard how many people care about legacy servers, and maybe we can come to an agreement about legacy. Its was not just about freeing Nostalrius if they could make an agreement. Also they really didn't FULLY promise anything about releasing the source code. Viper stated and I quote, "This date may be changed depending on the input provided by the overall feedback of legacy servers." -Viper- which means they may or may not release the code. The feedback showed that releasing it would not be wise since they got Blizzard's attention. Why release the code where you can make a stand at Blizzard Entertainment HQ stating that the world does want legacy and here is why. Just think about the people that will come back to play legacy servers, and if i am not mistaken I believe the top comment on the petition is that people will pay Blizzard a lot of money to play the version of WoW they enjoyed

I hope that slowly The Nostalrius development team releases the survey data they collected so maybe you and others can see where they were coming from when they made these decisions.
