In swear it's because they know vanilla will end up more popular then retail modern version
They both have groups that are reasonable, and they both have groups that frickin hate each other.
Vanilla players often act up elitist on the official forums and make their point on how casualized everything is now.
Retail players look down on the vanilla players like they can't move on and have a shit taste for wanting to play a "broken" game.
If you really in-depth to it, Vanilla players love the "Flaws" (are they?) that Vanilla had, and Retail players will call Vanilla flawed and just time-consuming while Vanilla players want the game to be exactly that: Time-consuming.
Vanilla players understand that the journey is what matters and that the grinds / timesinks are needed to make the reward / goal feel rewarding.
I guess retail players are satisfied with what they get. To be fair, I think most Retail players can be split upon in some groups, and sometimes a mix of it:
Transmoggers, who basically play Dress-up.
Raiders, who just want to test their skills and don't care about preparations like pots / flasks. Might as well be gone.
PvP-Players, who obviously wanna compete against each other.
All of these groups look down on vanilla. Transmoggers can't deal with looking shitty for the entire game / a point that takes months to get to
Raiders dislike the simple mechanics
PvPers think it's just button mashing.
