By all estimates, the community will likely come back much bigger than it was before. Lots more people know about it now after all that drama+media attention happened.

I'm not sure the server could survive WITHOUT opening a fresh server, there are going to be a lot of people playing.

i thought the players who want their character back are already sizable community, so whats the problem with both communities starting alongside each other? if this is not true would it not be also unfair to those who want fresh start?(not just new players by the way)

The problem is that the Nost PvP server will be sentenced as soon as the fresh PvP server will be launched because the fresh server will attract every new player (I see no reason for a new player to start on the old server, exactly as in the K1 and K2 case; i can't see a different mechanism).

And with zero new players influx, any server is going to die.

And it is sad that it is the former players who have already shown their support and loyalty to Nostalrius are the victims of this decision. So, for them as for me, the solution is to start on the fresh server (and thus aggravate the situation).

indeed, start using peoples' forum account join date as ways to defend your cause

what happened in kronos is not so relevant, kronos was a server with low population compared to this project,
do not be surprised that when a realm with before unseen amounts of players opened that realm of kronos 1 was left

here situation is that extremely high populated realm suffered sudden shut down
now big amount of population wants to continue, and other big amount including newcomers wants to experience a new nostalrius realm

again this is not your average MMO server, you keep saying new players without new players it will die

if you are really serious with this, no matter if fresh start released 2 months after the old realm, the old realm would stop getting new players anyway..

so you say you can not keep the realm alive with the many veterans who choose to continue the progress, not true, a community can keep itself alive in such great numbers without new players

veterans, and fact is there is a lot of them, enough to sustain a realm, have been offered a chance to join old realm and continue with their raids and chars, exactly what they asked for during the year, but now it seems they start asking for more even if it means writing off the other guys

Correct. Unless the servers are perceived as "equal" among the playerbase (for example: with 1 PvE server, 1 PvP server, both of them offer reasons to create a new character regardless of whether the player is new or not, because they offer different rulesets), the "old" server will always end up with a dwindling population.
