This is why Elysium isn't a suitable option

by Datura » Tue Nov 08, 2016 11:29 pm

Over the past months since Elysium opened, they've done mistake after mistake. The Guilds that were actively raiding and actually helping to report bugs, has vanished. The economy has been destroyed after a bug was reported but never fixed, because the developers deemed the report to be inappropriate in format.

They don't have the funds to run a project like Nostalrius. See here, they're begging their community to provide them with funds, this is not how you run a non-profit. If they cannot finance $230 to run a server with 500 people online, how are they going to afford $1000+ running a server with 10,000 people online?

They don't have the business people nor the people with the necessary skillset to do marketing for them. You don't need funds to do marketing but you need a team who knows whats right and wrong. If you are going to ask the community for funds, you'll need to come up with something creative. You see what Nostalrius did? They created T-shirts where the funds acquired were donated to charity. You don't need half a brain to figure out that's a more appropriate way to ask the community for funds.

So as much as everyone wants Nostalrius back, Elysium isn't ready to take on this task and they should not be given a chance to do so, as there is many of us that was on Elysium since the beginning until they liquidated their entire player base due to ignorance and not listening to the community.

Nostalrius, don't do this mistake I am sure there is other ways to return. I don't have enough posts to send messages to the Administration, but if someone could share this post with them it would be helpful before it's too late.

"As of now we have a total of 16 Nostalrius team members (excluding Nostalrius’ administration whom will remain off of the project) and the number is growing. Together we will bring true Legacy servers to the private server community until Blizzard does!"

I understand why you and some other players are worried, it seems that Elysium's team might not be at the same level as Nostalriu's team was, but it's just as Vuash quoted:
Vuash wrote:"As of now we have a total of 16 Nostalrius team members (excluding Nostalrius’ administration whom will remain off of the project) and the number is growing. Together we will bring true Legacy servers to the private server community until Blizzard does!"

They will be helping each other, so i'd say we can hope for a nice experience in that sense (Proper game updates, bug fixes, etc).

Now, the thing that worries me the most is what you mentioned about whether Elysium's servers can handle ~12k players simultaneously, because, no matter just how good your development team and administration is, if your hardware can't meet the requirements of the project, then the project is destined to fail. They said they would run stress tests, all we can do for now is wait for their results and announcements, i suppose.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people are so fucking worried. We should be happy that Nost is back, and it looks like, from what has been told, that the Nost and Elysium team will try to do the best job possible. Why not just wait and see and be glad something is actually happening, before going apeshit about Elysium "taking over".

You are totally right. The nost team knows what to do, and will work with Elysium. This is very promissing. Lets wait and see for 1 month.

I don't see where is the problem if they asked for donations (only a few are able to spend 250€/months for a non profit PS server)

With the affluence of players it will be mandatory, take a look at Nostalrius Post Mortem from page 53 to 54.
At the end the annual cost was of 8000€/year

However, some transparency regarding this topic would be a great thing ( a website dedicated to donations, etc...)

Elysium is not a new server by any means. It is run by Valkyrie, which has a long, long history. That history is what scares people.

Atleast it has a long history, some servers don't last for even a year ;)

Feenix has been around for a while too. Cockroaches are hard to kill.
