5 reasons why the old server WON'T be dead

by Lifealert » Fri Nov 11, 2016 1:32 pm

I think we can agree that a majority of Nostalrius players that were present for the server's closure were not there for its launch. I remember how launch was utter mayhem, with most players not being able to connect at the designated launch time. When everyone was able to finally log in there were some 5000 people online which was UNHEARD of in the private server community.

After being very pessimistic about the future state of the old character realm and going on a bitch posting spree I have composed myself. In doing so I have considered FIVE reasons why the old server will still have a sizable population.

1. Server instability
Considering how many people are hyped for Nostalrius' relaunch and how many people want to start anew I predict that at MINIMUM some 7000 people will be trying to play at the same time on a fresh start server. I suspect the launch will not go smoothly as login issues and disconnects will occur. People will make new characters on the old character server if it is stable in comparison.

2. Starting zone madness
Most people will either make an undead character or a human and will not look the other way on their decision. These starting zones, just like on the day of the original launch, will be in chaos with players unable to complete quests in a timely fashion. This alone will cause players to make new characters on the old server.

3. Fatigue
After Nostalrius' closure many players rerolled Kronos 2 and leveled to 60. While some players will level all over again I predict there will be a population of players who simply do not wish to grind levels so soon and will return to their old characters. I also predict that due to the stresses of leveling in a densely populated environment where there is cutthroat competition for specific mobs and world items that players will become fatigued very quickly. They will come to the old server for a normalized leveling experience.

4. Lack of Alterac Valley
Alterac Valley is an important piece of content in this game. Not only does AV reputation offer important items to players, but it is an instrumental source of XP in the important leveling range that is the lower to mid 50s. Let us not forget that AV is entertaining and desirable herbs spawn there. Players will realize how important AV is and will come to the old server.

5. Attachment to characters and picking up where you left off
People have put 20, 30, 40, even as much as 100 days into some of their characters. Time is money, and leaving a character unused that has had significant time invested into it would be the equivalent of throwing away a considerable amount of cash. People, with their guilds, want to pick up where they left off. How many guilds were close to killing rag for the first time? How many guilds were finally starting to progress through Blackwing Lair getting important people geared for AQ? How many people enjoyed the guild members they surrounded themselves with on raid nights? The server closing did not mean people went their separate ways indefinitely. People will want to pick up where they left off and be with the people they care about again.

Good points here. For me it is mostly №5 and 3 PLUS I've rolled on Elysium - one more reason to stay with old PvP server.

old server will be kill
your reasoning is valid up until a certain point
say, 3 months from now. you decide you're going to play vanilla
which realm do you choose?
The old realm will have people constantly quitting, it's just how games work. The new realm will have these constant quitters aswell, but there is 1 difference.

the new realm will have a constant trickle of new players leveling on it, and the old realm will have next to 0 new players coming in. why would a new player choose a 18month old server over a 3month old server? there is no reason to and no one will ever do it

eventually, some time after aq maybe, the old server will die, so make your peace with that and maybe get started on an alt on the new realm during those first 3-4 months of the old servers return

As i said previously :

http://www.strawpoll.me/11589399/r

You can multiply those number by 4-5. (cause only minority play the strawpoll game)

PPL who will get frustrated by the lag and the tons of player on starting zone of fresh start will just moove on the old pvp server.

And definetly i dont see nostalrius launch two fresh start cause they know how it hard to manage 1 server.

I'm confident for the old pve server cause no alternativ.

I'm currently in the process of building a list of guilds that are currently looking into returning to the old Nostalrius PvP server when it gets relaunched.

My intention with this list is to hopefully ease everybody's mind since I have seen a lot of doubt from the old community. I think many of us who played on the old server are worried about its future. Hopefully we can get a better picture of how the server is going to turn out once the list is finished. I am hopeful. :)

So far I have seen forum posts from a number of guilds, and I have also spoken to many representatives of various guilds myself and at the moment there are over 30 established old guilds that have either confirmed their plans, or are still discussing them.

I believe you can combined "starting zone madness" with instability as #2 causes #1 on launch.

Your #5 could be for those who are vets of the private server community and have spent 1,2 5 years doing MC/Onxyia/BWL for servers to fall apart with their AQ promises or server not holding up when AQ is released.

Most 5 man gear is better than MC gear. A few classes don't even need Onxyia. If you have never played Vanilla or never done MC you should prob go to a server where you have a chance to master the lesser raids before the other ones.

Not because of "carried" or raids are not important after, even MC has Best in Game items available and will always be important, but you should have time to learn 40 man raid dynamic, community and self exploration.

I understand that new characters are the lifeblood of a server. My points included reasons why new characters would be created. They would be created from the woes of a server launch which can be exciting but ultimately is very annoying and time consuming. But several months down the line your counter point holds true to an extent. There will still be some sort of trickle as people will level new characters for the reason of being geared by their friends in already established guilds. It may not be enough and I hope this can be addressed.

I do not think it can be as bad as people think with it completely dying. However if things do not follow my predictions it is possible that the server population can take a significant blow. I do not see dipping into late Feenix's Emerald Dream levels of low population.

If anyone is to participate in this weekend's Q&A I urge to to bring up this matter with the Valkyrie staff so we can get their viewpoint.

But there is just as much of a chance to master lesser raids on the old server as is the new one if the population holds true. There were still guilds working towards clearing all of MC.

I would be happy with a pop of 2k (what the strawpoll says). unfortunately only a minority vote, so we should expect atleast x2 or x3, and adding the chinese community.

And besides of this, people who will want to play in the old because the fresh will be a mess, and the old pvp has more content and items.

We definitely expect another huge amount of players in the old pvp. You should stop creating these threads, the three realms will be filled with no problem.

I have only created one thread with this topic however I have posted A LOT about it. I have been seeing people state how the old server will be dead and I wished argue against their belief.
